Suture Management

Suture Management

One of the major obstacles to a wider acceptance of arthroscopic procedures for rotator cuff repair is the need for improved suture management. The SmartStitch® is an integrated grasping and suturing device that enables the surgeon to deliver a high strength Incline Mattress® stitch into the rotator cuff tissue in a matter of seconds, without the need for suture shuttling. The SmartStitch dramatically simplifies the suturing and suture management process, saving valuable OR time.

The SmartStitch suturing device features an integrated grasper and suturing design that allows the surgeon to stabilize the rotator cuff tissue and arthroscopically place an Incline Mattress stitch. This unique jaw design allows for a deep bite into the rotator cuff tissue with a strong arthroscopically placed stitch equal to that of the modified Mason-Allen stitch.

A recent study was conducted to assess the cuff-to-bone interface and pressure consistency after rotator cuff repair using either an open transosseous tunnel technique or the arthroscopic OPUS® AutoCuff® System.1 The AutoCuff System, with the SmartStitch Incline Mattress stitch combined with the Magnum® implant, with its unique tensioning capability, provided superior interface pressure compared to the modified Mason-Allen stitch, the simple stitch, or the horizontal stitch.1
